World number one Serena Williams pulls out Mutua Madrid Open due to flu

The Mutua Madrid Open announced that flu has forced top seed and two-time champion Serena Williams to withdraw from this year's tournament.

Leicester city manager: Ranieri: We Are Fighting To Make This Dream A Reality

Ahead of Sunday’s clash with Manchester United, manager Claudio Ranieri is hoping his side can turn their Barclays Premier League dream into a reality.

With just three points needed from their remaining fixtures against Man Utd, Everton and Chelsea to secure City their first-ever title, the Foxes are closing in on an extraordinary achievement.

A victory at Old Trafford on Sunday could see City crowned Premier League champions, but Ranieri is well aware of the threat Louis Van Gaal’s men will pose.

“I understand the people want to continue to dream and enjoy but I am a pragmatic man and we need three points more,” Ranieri said. “We want to do this.

“We are fighting to try to make this dream a reality, but not yet. I can understand all the happiness around the city – that is great – but that is the fans and we have to work.

“Sunday will be a very tough match, I have a lot of respect for [Louis] Van Gaal, the players and Man Utd fans. I know very well it will be a very difficult match. But we go with the same mentality.”

Ranieri says his side are shaping up well for the trip to Manchester, as Jamie Vardy will serve the final game of his suspension, while Matty James continues his recovery from a knee problem.

He added: “The players were very concentrated in training and must continue in this way. I feel it is very important to be concentrated 100 per cent. The story of football is fantastic but you have to be focused on the match, not on other things.

“It is a good opportunity and for this reason we want to be focused. I know you want me to talk about the title but be calm and wait.

“I told them (the players) everything is in our hands and we must continue. If our strength is to be concentrated and solid, we have to continue.”

Photos: Kelly Rowland sits down with Galore Magazine to talk about the power of Girl groups

Former destinys child member and mother of one, Kelly Rowland, is back and better. She sits down with Galore magazine to talk about her new document series on BET, 'Chasing Destiny' and the power of girl groups.

You can read the full interview on Galoremag.com

You have a docu-series coming out with BET — tell us about it.
I felt like there was a void in the marketplace with girl groups. I’ve been wanting to put together a girl group since Destiny’s Child’s very last tour. Between that time, I was busy with my solo projects and I said that if I wanted to basically bring a group under my wing, then I wanted to be able to have the attention to pay to them, to nurture them, to be sure that I could be there to help mold them and I wouldn’t be so busy with things I had to do.
Basically the longer I waited, the more I felt like there was a huge gap in the marketplace for girl groups. I was like, where are all the girl groups? I put a girl group together, Little Mix, and it was so much fun. And then of course a couple of years passed and “X-Factor” [let to the rise of] Fifth Harmony and I’m like, only two girl groups? That’s all we get?
So basically, I just knew it was time for me to really start the documentary, and I wanted of course my partner Frank Gaston to be on board with me. We just got started and I remember talking to different networks about the idea, and some people didn’t get it and they thought it would be another “Making the Band.” But that’s not what I wanted at all. I wanted the cameras to be there to catch it all and I didn’t want there to be a specific formula in the show, and a lot of people would be scared of that. I’m just happy my BET family loved it.

The rise and rise of Nigerian and Manchester City player Kelechi Iheanacho

364 days after scoring in the 2015 FA Youth Cup final for City u18s, Kelechi Iheanacho took to the field for Tuesday night’s UEFA Champions League semi-final first leg against Real Madrid.
When David Silva’s night came to a premature end after 40 minutes, Manuel Pellegrini handed his 19-year old Nigerian ace the most ringing of endorsements, bringing Kelechi on for his third appearance in the competition.

In what was one of the most important games in City’s history, it showed just how far Iheanacho has come in this, his breakthrough season and, perhaps even more importantly, shows Wednesday night's beaten FA Youth Cup finalists just what is possible with hard work in such a short space of time.
Kelechi's appearance against Real followed what was his best outing so far in the Premier League against Stoke where the 19-year old struck twice, won a penalty and earned the Man of the Match accolade.
A performance which left his manager purring.

Pellegrini told journalists: “Kelechi is a player with an important role at this Club. He played very well and his contribution is important. I am very pleased."

Those two goals meant that Kelechi had scored a goal for every 81 minutes he had been on the field in 2015/16 and took him up to 11 for the season – making him the club’s third top-scorer.
Iheanacho may have been unable to improve further upon his staggering minutes-per-goal ratio but he didn’t look out of place against the continent’s most successful club, causing problems for Real between their lines of defence and midfield.

This remarkable ascent from under-18 football to Europe’s most prestigious stage began on the summer tour of the USA in 2014 where the youngster caught the eye with a string of fine performances.
He scored in the first tour match against Sporting KC which preceded the competition to cap an excellent performance, sidefooting a Jesus Navas cut-back into the bottom corner of the net with two minutes left on the clock.
Inheanacho got in on the scoring act again a few days later in the opening game of the Guinness International Champions Cup with an improvised outside-of-the-foot finish against Milan in the 5-1 win at Pittsburgh’s Heinz Field.

Kelechi first rose to prominence on the world junior stage when he scored six goals and made seven assists in the 2013 FIFA U17 World Cup which helped to fire Nigeria’s Super Eaglets to success in Abu Dhabi.
This incredible contribution saw him named the U17 World Cup’s best player, earning him the coveted Golden Ball trophy.
His tally in the competition included a four goal haul against Mexico in their opening group game and, by the end of the tournament; he had a direct hand exactly half of Nigeria’s 26 goals.
Previous Golden Ball winners at the FIFA U17 World Cup include legendary US international Landon Donovan and 2014 World Cup-winning Real Madrid midfielder Toni Kroos.

In January 2014, Kelechi went on to claim the “Most Promising Talent of the Year” award in January 2014 at the CAF annual awards ceremony which recognises the best footballers in Africa.
His senior debut for Nigeria wasn’t far away, with the youngster making his first appearance for the Super Eagles last year, as a substitute against Swaziland.
Now a regular in the squad, Iheanacho is already seen as one of the continent’s brightest young hopes following a stunning breakthrough campaign at City.

A last gasp winning goal against Crystal Palace, a cool finish against Spurs and a hat-trick against Aston Villa are just three highlights of an impressive season for the boy from Owerri.
The only competition the dauntless teenager hasn’t scored a goal for City in is the Champions League.
With a goal-per-minute record this good, you certainly wouldn’t bet against Kelechi putting that right at the Santiago Bernabeu on Wednesday night.

Jermaine Jackson Confirms Participation At Lagos Int’l Jazz Concert

Jermaine Jackson, co-lead singer of global music brand, Jackson 5 and elder brother of late king of pop, Michael Jackson on Friday confirmed readiness to participate at the star-studded Jazz concert being put together by the Lagos State Government in commemoration of the 2016 International Jazz Day.
The concert, which is to be hosted by Governor Akinwunmi Ambode, will hold at the Lagos House in Alausa, Ikeja on Saturday, April 30 by 5pm.

Jermaine, who confirmed his readiness to participate at the festival during a press conference held at the Lagos State Ministry of Information and Strategy, Alausa, said he would be at the festival to support the government and array of international and local artists who would be performing.

Jermaine, who is in Nigeria as part of activities marking the Jackson Golden Africa Tour, also disclosed plans by the Jackson 5 to establish a music academy in Nigeria to nurture and prepare the talents in Africa for global market.

He said: “It’s been 50 years for the Jacksons and we are bringing a team together of people who can produce a concert. I like coming here because I have a lot of questions. I was just in China and I learnt that the first dynasty that started in China came from Africa here and I had a professor in China to tell me this. That made me very proud and the world needs to know this because in our history books in America, they don’t put this there; they don’t want us to know this but when you travel and you have the opportunity to see things for yourself, you will realize that the history books were written by someone else and it is their version and their interpretation of what happened which is usually not the truth.”

“We are going to give you nice compilation of songs that you know and I am just very honoured to be here because we have been kept away from you because of the politics and we are not interested in such politics because we are people who care about people. We need to have a closer relationship with African-American and the rest of Africa because we have been separated for long and we can reach out to do other things.

“There are lots of great talents here and we want to use our 50 years experience of being in the business to teach the arts. We have in our plans to establish Jackson Academy Performing Art School and the school will have a curriculum and also will teach music, directing, film, lightening, producing, dancing and so on. We want to get the talents here ready for the global market and I do believe that the drums and the beat started from here,” Jermaine said.

Earlier, the Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Mr. Steve Ayorinde, who received Jermaine and his entourage alongside the Special Adviser to the Governor on Oversees Affairs and Investment, Professor Ademola Abass and other senior officials of the Ministry, expressed delight to receive the visitors to the state.

Suspect in November Paris attacks extradited to France

Salah Abdeslam, who is suspected of playing a major part in terrorist attacks in Paris by Islamist militants, has been extradited to France from Belgium. This was revealed by prosecutors in both countries on Wednesday. The November attacks left 130 people dead.

Abdeslam, 26, was captured in Brussels on March 18 after a four-month manhunt. He was due to appear before French judges later on Wednesday.

"Salah Abdeslam has been handed over to the French authorities this morning," Belgium's federal prosecutors said in a statement.

He was captured four days before separate suicide bomb attacks by Islamist militants at Brussels international airport and on a metro train left 32 people dead.

Abdeslam had told investigators that he had planned the Nov. 13 bombing and shooting attacks in Paris and had planned to blow himself up at a sports stadium there but changed his mind at the last minute. He is suspected of having rented two cars used to transport the attackers to, and around, the French capital.

Abdeslam's elder brother Brahim, with whom he used to run a bar in the Brussels district of Molenbeek, was among the Paris suicide bombers.

Liverpool's Sakho accepts positve drug test finding

Mamadou Sakho has accepted UEFA’s finding of a banned substance in the ‘A’ sample he submitted after Liverpool's 1-1 Europa League draw with Manchester United on March 17.

The French international informed the governing body of his decision on Tuesday, and also provided explanations for the presence of the prohibited product.

Liverpool has however declined to comment on the matter saying it is a process between the player and UEFA, and will only offer a position once the undertaking is resolved.

The case will be dealt with by UEFA's Control, Ethics and Disciplinary Body. The 26-year old will have to give a satisfactory explanation as to why a prohibited substance was found in his sample. A hearing will be set and Sakho faces an anxious wait to discover the punishment he will face.

His place in the French national team ahead of the European Championship this summer is now under threat. In the meantime, he will remain unavailable for selection during the process after a joint decision between Liverpool and the player.

Jury: 96 football fans were unlawfully killed at Hillsborough

An inquest has concluded that 96 football fans who died as a result of a crush in the 1989 Hillsborough disaster were unlawfully killed.
The jury also found match commander Ch Supt David Duckenfield "responsible for manslaughter by gross negligence" due to a breach of his duty of care. It added that police errors also added to a dangerous situation at the FA Cup semi-final.
The prime minister said the inquests had provided "official confirmation" fans were "utterly blameless".
The exoneration of the Liverpool fans comes after a 27-year campaign by victims' families. The jury stated the fans did not contribute to the chaos at the turnstiles at the Leppings Lane end of Sheffield Wednesday's ground on 15 April 1989.
Nine jurors reached unanimous decisions on all but one of the 14 questions at the inquests into Britain's worst sporting disaster.
The coroner Sir John Goldring said he would accept a majority decision about whether the fans were unlawfully killed - seven jurors agreed they were.
When the conclusion of the unlawful killing was revealed, families were seen hugging each other in the public gallery and some punched the air.

Vincent Kompany expects City to score at least one in the Champions League semi-final second leg against Real Madrid next Wednesday.

The skipper believes that a goal for Manuel Pellegrini’s side would turn the tables and is hopeful that City’s good Champions League away record will remain in the Santiago Bernabeu.

He said: “I expect us to score a goal and, if we do, it will be really interesting.
“We’ve got a really good away record in the Champions League. 0-0, if it was an away game for me, I would not feel comfortable.

“We’re still an offensive team, who are always looking to score goals.
“If we don’t manage to score a goal anyway, what claim can we make in getting to the final?”
The 30-year old was part of a defence that kept City’s third consecutive home clean sheet and he told mcfc.co.uk that the game panned out as he expected.

Kompany commented: “I think both teams had a game plan.
“I didn’t expect to see both teams commit in the first half of this tie and that’s basically what happened.
“We had two strikers on the pitch, but they were defending really well and, in the case, we had to defend well.”

Joe Hart made a key save late in the game to deny Pepe from point blank range and the captain was full of praise for City’s number one.
He stated: “I thought we struggled on one or two set pieces and Joe did great.
“At this level, you’re expected to have a top goalkeeper behind you and he did his job, like he always does for us.”
