UCL: PSG secures first leg advantage after win over Chelsea

Chelsea were condemned to their first defeat since the departure of Jose Mourinho as goals from Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Edinson Cavani secured a slender 2-1 lead for Paris Saint-Germain.

Lucas Moura was brought down by John Obi Mikel five yards from the box. Zlatan stepped up to take the free-kick and his shot was deflected by the Nigerian international. The deflection left Thibaut Courtois stranded to give the host the lead in the 39 th minute.

The lead however did not last long as an uncharacteristic goal from John Obi Mikel cancelled out Ibrahimovic’s opener on the stroke of half-time. It was his sixth goal in 358 games for Chelsea.

The second half saw PSG come out all guns blazing with Courtois having to make top quality saves to keep the scores level. He was finally beaten in the 78th minute after substitute Edison Cavani converted a Di Maria pass.

Chelsea returns to London ahead of the second leg with a vital away goal.
