Afghanistan Attack: 6 NATO Troops Killed Near Bagram Airbase

A suicide bomber on a motorcycle killed six NATO troops in Afghanistan on Monday, according to officials.

A spokesperson for the coalition said the troops died as the result of a vehicle-born explosive device near Bagram Airfield. Three NATO troops were injured, the spokesman added.

Further details on the circumstances of the attack and nationalities of those involved were not immediately available. U.S. officials told NBC News that American soldiers were among those killed and wounded.

Bagram is a large U.S. military base north of Kabul, the Afghan capital.

Blatter and Platini banned for 8 years

Sepp Blatter and Michel Platini were both handed an eight-year ban from all football related activities by the FIFA Ethic Committee. The former FIFA president had made payments of $2 million to Platini for his role as a Presidential adviser between 1999 and 2002 with a signed contract. Blatter and Platini were also handed fines of 50,000 and 80,000 swiss francs for the offence. They both insist that they had a verbal agreement.

The Ethics committee ruled that both men had abused their office. Platini was widely expected to replace Blatter at FIFA but the events of the past months have dealt a severe blow to his ambition.

However, Blatter and Platini have continued to plead their innocence and they are expected to challenge the ruling at the Court of Arbitration for Sports (CaS). Blatter has also said he will take actions under Swiss law if required.

Sepp Blatter became FIFA president in 1998 and his time at the head of FIFA corresponded with several allegations of corruption at the world football governing body.
