Mosunmola 'Mo' Abudu becomes the only African to make the list of Top 100 Innovative leaders

Founder, chairman and CEO of Ebony Life TV, Mosunmola "Mo" Abudu, has been selected as one of the Top 100 innovative leaders. The only African on the list, according to Business Insider, she makes the 56th list.

Business Insider has compiled a list of companies, large and small, that embodies this commitment to a bigger picture of leadership and innovation. These companies transcend the boundaries of capitalism and generate creative worth that challenges the idea of traditional business success.

Here are some of the names that made the list:

1.  Mark Zuckerberg of Facebook
2. Howard Schultz of Starbucks
3. Michael Joseph of Vodafone
4. Marc Benioff of Salesforce
5. Bill and Melinda Gates of the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation
6. Sergey Brin and Larry Page of Google
7. Elon Musk of Tesla and SpaceX
8. Salman Khan of Khan Academy
9. Paul Tudor Jones of Tudor Investment Corporation, The Robin Hood Foundation, and Just Capital
10. Paul Polman of Unilever

Founder, chairman and CEO, EbonyLife TV
Mosunmola “Mo” Abudu is chairman and CEO of one of Africa’s most successful new media ventures — the Nigeria-based television network EbonyLife TV, which endeavors to tell real African stories and change the conversation around the continent.

Growing up in the UK raised by Nigerian parents, Abudu was subjected to slews of ignorant, 'mind-boggling' comments and questions about African life and culture ('Do you guys live in trees?), which triggered a desire to dispel the world’s inaccurate perceptions.

“Somewhere deeply buried in my subconscious was a need to tell Africa's story. My burning desire is just to tell everybody: Listen, we're not a bunch of savages. We really are gifted," she told the Independent.

Abudu took an unorthodox route to entertainment. She returned to Nigeria in the early 1990s, working as the head of HR for ExxonMobil until 2000, when she left to launch her own HR consulting firm and, several years later, a hotel in Lagos as well. In 2006, she decided to ditch the corporate world and break into TV.

She started 'Moments with Mo', which became the first daily talk show syndicated across the continent, landing high-profile guests like Christine Lagarde, head of the International Monetary Fund, and Hillary Clinton, then the US Secretary of State.

In 2013, Abudu launched EbonyLife, where she produces a wide array of TV shows, from her own talk show to an African version of “Desperate Housewives,” which she landed in a deal with Disney. She has also inked content distribution deals with CBS and Netflix. The network now provides premium content to 49 countries across Africa, as well as the UK and the Caribbean.

Think before you type: Actress Dayo Amusa Speaks Against Cyber Bullying

Nollywood actress Dayo Amusa, has been bullied and called names lately. Dayo has taken to her Instagram account to speak out on cyber bullying.

Cyberbullying is bullying that takes place using electronic technology. Electronic technology includes devices and equipment such as cell phones, computers, and tablets as well as communication tools including social media sites, text messages, chat, and websites.

Read below her message.

CELEBRITIES are not supernatural being. It's so #PATHETIC of anyone to think otherwise... WORDS!!!
Those five letters can make or break anyone.
D words u hear can either lift u up or bring u down. D words u say to someone can either uplift them or destroy them.
I see & read a lot of postings on social media & some of these words cuts deep. Forget about d usually high school bullies. High tech bullies (cyber bullying) are deadly!!!! D way these people furiously attack other people's picture, career, family, even worse, children is terrible. It's even more disheartening when I see grownups doing this.
How does one criticized their fellow human being in such manner? Hiding behind d keyboard to make other people miserable will never add values to your life.I have noticed this predominantly among Nigerians/Africans.D way they tear down makeup artist & their work is mind blowing.
Don't get me started on Nigerian artist both actors & musicians. There is something called constructive criticism or unbiased opinion.I must commend Nigerian artists, they are actually doing their best with what they've got.In a country as frustrating as Nigeria, no light, no water, pricy fuel & bad road, they still managed to produce decent movies.Nigeria's movie industry has actually improved a great deal, most especially d Yoruba movie industry. We have great actors and procedures producing & acting in great movies. It's sad to see that these folks still get attacked on social media.People felt it's their calling to meddle in these people's personal life. These folks are not made of stones. They have feelings just like u & I. I don't think I can sit back & let anyone attack me or my family like that.Only a coward sits behind a screen & a keyboard & bully other people. We need to do better, let your words encourage, lift & build others. Remember we'll all give an account of every idle words.Let's build each other up. Uplift other people's business. If u have to say something think about your words. if u are in d other person's shoes, hw wil u feel if those words are spoken to u? Life is difficult enough for us to be tearing each other down.
Think before you type... Thank u @yearofjoy

Mark Zuckerberg and his Wife are investing in an Education Company -ANDELA

As part of Chan Zuckerberg Initiative, Mark Zuckerberg and his wife Priscilla are investing in an education company called Andela. Andela has raised $24 million in funding from the Chan Zuckerberg Initiative

Andela provides companies with access to the top 1% of global tech talent. We identify high-potential developers on the African continent, shape them into world-class technical leaders, and pair them with companies as full-time, distributed team members. From Udacity to Microsoft, companies at all stages have partnered with Andela to accelerate their product road-maps while minimizing time spent interviewing, on-boarding, and training new hires.

This is what Mark had to say about the investment.

'We live in a world where talent is evenly distributed, but opportunity is not. Andela's mission is to close that gap.

I was lucky to be born in a wealthy country where I had access to computers and the internet. If I had been born somewhere else, I'm not sure I would have been able to start Facebook -- or at least it would have taken a lot longer and been more difficult.

The gap between talent and opportunity is among the greatest in Africa. Six out of every ten Africans are under the age of 35 -- and in some places, more than half of them are out of work.

Andela is working to unlock that potential by finding and training top tech talent in Africa. After a six-month software development program, Andela Fellows work remotely for Fortune 500 companies and startups around the world. Companies get access to great developers, and developers in Africa get the opportunity to use their skills and support their communities.

Priscilla and I believe in supporting innovative models of learning wherever they are around the world -- and what Andela is doing is pretty amazing. Check out andela.com to learn more.'
