Dublin hotel boxing weigh-in shooting: One dead and two injured after men in 'police uniforms burst in firing AK47s'

The men are thought to have been wearing what looked like police-style uniforms

A man has died and two others are injured after a group of men allegedly dressed in police uniforms burst into a hotel and began firing AK47s, it's been reported.

The attack happened at a boxing tournament weigh-in at the Regency Hotel in Dublin at around 2.30pm this afternoon.

People inside the hotel, including children, were forced to flee the scene as gunshots were fired, the Irish Mirror reports.

Three men in their 20s and 30s, were injured in the shooting and one of the men was pronounced dead at the scene, Gardai said.

The two other victims have been rushed to The Mater and Beaumont hospitals with what are suspected to be gunshot wounds.

The scene has been sealed off as an examination gets under way.

The weigh-in was ahead of a Clash of the Clans boxing bout at the National Stadium in the south of the city, scheduled to take place on Saturday evening.

Promoters MGM advertised the show, which was set to begin at 2pm, and held a press conference for the event at the same venue yesterday.

They posted: "The weigh-in will be taking place at the Regency Airport Hotel today Friday 5th February at 14:00.

"We look forward to seeing you there."

MGM is a new Professional Boxing gym in Puerto Banus, Spain.

The headline fight on Saturday night’s card is Jamie Kavanagh V Joao Bento for the WBO European Lightweight Title.

The card at the National Arena in Tallaght was set to be shown live on Box Nation.
