Rihanna and Demi Lovato were among the best dressed as many stars came out to help pay tribute to Lionel Richie at the 2016 Music Cares gala in Los Angeles.
Each year ahead of the Grammys, the Recording Academy recognizes a performer as its Person Of The Year.
Richie, 66, was born in Alabama and first found fame with The Commodores in 1968.
He started writing songs for other artists to perform and in 1982 released his first solo album winning a number one hit with Truly.
