Ronaldo: I hope Zidane stays at Madrid

Cristiano Ronaldo has reiterated his desire for Zinedine Zidane to stay on as Real Madrid manager. 

The Portugese star was speaking after Real Madrid defeated Manchester City 1-0 on aggregate to maintain the club's push for a La Liga and UEFA Champions League double. 

Zidane's arrival has coincided with a happier dressing room and he has guided Madrid to a 14th European Cup final after Wednesday’s win over Manchester City at the Santiago Bernabeu. They will be aiming to win an 11th European crown when they lock horns with rivals Atletico Madrid at San Siro in a repeat of the 2014 final. The capital club remain in La Liga contention, just a point behind title holders Barcelona and Atletico with two matches remaining. 

Ronaldo once again pledged his unflinching support for Zidane, who is no certainty to carry on beyond the season at Real, a club notorious for changing coaches regularly. 

“He’s doing a great job with the team. We’re all helping each other, it’s mutual,” Ronaldo said.

“I hope he continues. I admire him as a manager and as a person.”

Ronaldo added: “We’ve always had Zizou’s back, he’s humble, he knows how to listen and that’s always important.”

Madrid will now turn their attention to La Liga as they host Valencia this weekend.

Ronaldo: I don't need to be friends with Bale or Benzema to win titles

Cristiano Ronaldo says being friends with his Real Madrid teammates does not matter as long as they are performing together on it.

There is a belief that Ronaldo, Gareth Bale and Karim Benzema do not share a similar friendship as Barcelona's attacking trio of Messi, Suarez and Neymar.

However, at a news conference ahead of Madrid’s Champions League round-of-16 first leg with Roma on Wednesday, Ronaldo, 31, insisted players do not need to be best friends away from football to get results citing his experience at Manchester United.

“When I was at Manchester United, we won the Champions League and there were some players I would only say ‘hi’ to, like [Ryan] Giggs, [Paul] Scholes or [Rio] Ferdinand,” Ronaldo said. “But the harmony on the pitch was great.

“It’s not necessary to go out eating with Bale, what matters is when you are on the field. What happens off it doesn’t count, it matters that we are a team on it.”

The captain of the Portuguese national team is confident of his side's chances against Roma in the Champions league.

“I’m feeling good and the team are good,” he said. “We’re working well, playing well and scoring lots of goals. Of course this is not the Primera Division, it’s the Champions League, but we’ve got a great desire to win. These are the most difficult games on paper, but we’re looking to win it.

“Whether it’s Champions League, domestic league or cup, it’s the same for me — I always want to win. Tomorrow will be a great game against a great side, who are playing at home in front of their own fans, but we’ll be looking to win,” he concluded.

Ronaldo claims 3rd Spanish La Liga Pichichi

Cristiano Ronaldo has claimed the 2014-2015 Pichichi Trophy at Marca's awards ceremony held at Madrid's Goya theatre after finishing top of the goalscoring charts in the last La Liga campaign. 

The forward had a fantastic personal season in which he netted 48 goals in 35 games. 

Ronaldo thanked the Real Madrid family after he received the award saying:  "I dedicate this to the team, the coach, the coaching staff and to Real Madrid as a whole because without them I wouldn't score as many goals. This trophy is for the people who work with me on a daily basis".

"I'd ask our fans to keep on getting behind us because their support is magnificent. Us players are going to go out and give our all to try to win titles and lift the Champions League".

"I've been in Spain for six years and for me, this is the best league in the world. It's a brilliant and highly competitive league, with some great players. It's a privilege to play here, and I want to stay on for a few more years, until my contract runs out, and then we'll see about the future".
