Jonathan should speak out over diverted arms fund - PDP

The national leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has asked former President Goodluck Jonathan to speak out on the diverted $2.1 billion meant for purchase of arms to fight Boko Haram insurgency during his time in office.

The Deputy National Publicity Secretary, Alhaji Abdulahi Jalo, stated this during a press briefing at the party’s headquarters in Abuja on Monday. He said it was necessary for the former president to inform Nigerians and the international community whether he authorized the distribution of funds meant to buy arms for the fight against Boko Haram.

He said, “As you all know, no single kobo can be spent by the Federal Government without an act of the National Assembly.

“Money earmarked for arms purchase, some people diverted it to something else. So many people that you cannot even predict were involved. Now darkness has come to light.

“Jonathan is alive; he should clarify whether he asked the National Security Adviser to divert money meant to fight Boko Haram into his campaign. I am from the North-East and I know the terrible security situation our people are facing.

“The money was meant to fight Boko Haram, and we all know that you can’t rule without peace. Now darkness has given way to light.”

He added that members of other parties also benefited from the money stressing that Chief Olu Falae was not a member of the PDP.  He added that the President needed to speak out to confirm if he gave Dasuki the order to go ahead and share the money.
