Asisat Oshoala marks debut with goal as Arsenal ladies beat Reading

Nigerian striker Asisat Oshoala made a perfect start to her Arsenal career after scoring in her new side's convincing 3-1 win over newly promoted side Reading.

The game also marked the start of the English Women’s Super League season.

Arsenal ladies took the lead through Dominique Janssen as she fired a shot into the bottom corner just after the half hour mark.

Oshoala went close before half time but was denied by the woodwork. She was however not going to be denied as she doubled the Gunners' lead just one minute into the second half to mark an encouraging debut. Oshoala raced into the box and rounded Reading's goalkeeper Grace Maloney before poking home.

Jade Boho-Sayo reduced the deficit for Reading with a near-post header. Reading tried to get an equalizer but Arsenal stood firm.

Dan Carter however put the result beyond doubt with 20 minutes remaining when her powerful header evaded the Reading goalkeeper and ended up in the net.
