Chibok girls would have been rescued if Obasanjo was President - Shettima

Governor of Borno state, Kashim Shettima has declared that the kidnapped 279 Chibok girls would have been rescued if former president Olusegun Obasanjo was at the helm of power at the time the incident occurred. He went to criticize former President Goodluck Jonathan, who he said only got in contact with him 19 days after the abduction.

Shettima made the statement when Obasanjo paid a courtesy visit to the Government House in Maiduguri.

The governor recalled how Obasanjo clamoured for peace during his administration as president by interacting with governors, traditional rulers and other peacemakers in troubled regions, in search of peace.

He added that Jonathan didn’t sympathize with the people of Borno state over the girls kidnap.

“In our own case, Your Excellency, after the Chibok abduction of over 200 schoolgirls in April, 2014, it took 19 days for me to receive a call from the Presidency.”

“I brought this mainly to show the difference, because we will only appreciate scenarios when we make comparisons.”
