Following the recent death in Sierra Leone due to Ebola, over 100 people have been quarantined in the country. Those quarantined are individuals who came in contact with a woman who died of Ebola last week.
There are now fears that the disease could potentially spread, just days after the region believed that the outbreak, which had killed thousands, was over.
The World Health Organization (WHO) had recently declared that West Africa was Ebola free after Liberia joined the other affected countries in going six weeks without any new reported cases. It had also warned about the possibilities of flare-ups since survivors could carry the virus for months.
Mariatu Jalloh died of Ebola on January 12 but there are concerns that authorities did not follow basic protocols.
According to Reuter, a health report stated that the victim lived in a house with 22 people during the time she was unwell. It also added that five people were involved in washing her corpse. The Ministry of Health and the Office of National Security released a joint statement saying that 109 people have so far been quarantined, 28 of whom were high-risk cases.
"An active case investigation continues in the four districts where the young woman was known to have traveled," the statement said.
