Serena Williams defeats Maria Sharapova in the Australian open

Defending champion Serena Williams, has defeated Maria Sharapova in the 4th round of the Australian Open.

Serena Beats Sharapova in straights sets to advance to the semi-finals 6-4,6-1.

Speaking to Chanel 7 news in Australia, she said: 

"It was super intense. She’s an incredibly intense focused player...when you’re playing someone like that you have to come out with a lot of fire and intensity."

Serena Williams faces Agnieszka Radwanska of Poland next as she bids for a 19th grand slam title.
