APC wins big in Niger state polls

The All Progressives Congress (APC) had a clean sweep in the elections held across all the 25 local government areas in Niger State.

The local government elections were characterized by very low turnout and late arrival of electoral material as electorates and party agents blamed neglect and ill-treatment on some alleged quarters on Saturday.

The election were mostly peaceful in most of the centres, but some of the accredited voters didn't come out to vote leading to a low turnout of voters.

General Abdulsalami Abubakar did not take part in the voting, while sources said General Ibrahim Babangida was out of the country for medical checkup.

The local governments results collected from the various council returning officers were: Agaie, Chanchaga, Bosso, Lavun, Mokwa, Edati, Magama, Munya, Pailkoro and Rafi.

Others were: Rijau, Shiroro, Tafa, Bida, Wushishi, Gbako, Mariga, Lapai, Gurara, Borgu, Agwara, and Katcha Local Government Areas. Election results are still being awaited in Kontagora, which is the country home of the State Governor.

However, election in Suleja Local Government Area was rescheduled for Saturday, January 23 due to a perceived crisis in the area.
