Pep Guardiola has
confirmed that he is leaving Bayern Munich in the summer as he wants to manage in
the Premier League.
Guardiola stated
last month that he would not renew his contract with Bayern, with his deal
expiring in the summer of 2016. Bayern Munich quickly named Carlo Ancelotti as
his replacement from this summer.
Speculation has
since mounted over the Spaniard’s future, with Manchester City seen as
favourites to land the tactician with Manuel Pellegrini likely to leave at the
end of the season. Arsenal, Chelsea and Manchester United have also been linked
to the former Barcelona manager.
Guardiola said on
Tuesday: “I want to coach in Premier League. That is the reason I did
not prolong my contract. I need a new challenge and would like to take the
opportunity to be a coach in England.
“I want to
experience the atmosphere there. I’m 44, it’s the right moment to go there. I
want new stadiums, cities and restaurants to know. There are offers, but I
haven’t signed anything yet. If I have a new club, they’ll communicate it,” he
added.
Guardiola has had a
trophy-laden managerial career since he took charge at Barcelona and
subsequently at Bayern Munich. This declaration is likely to further increase
speculations towards the end of the season.
