Lassa fever in Ondo state, kills two

The Ondo state government has announced that it has recorded two suspected cases of Lassa fever deaths.

The state Commissioner for Health, Dr Dayo Adeyanju made this disclosure yesterday at Akure and stated that the state government had put measures in place to prevent further spread and prevent deaths among those affected.

The commissioner stated that the virus came into the state through someone who had contacted the virus at Edo state and said that 31 people who have contact with the two dead suspects were under surveillance.

The commissioner, who was speaking at a Lassa Fever Prevention Stakeholders meeting for health workers, religious and traditional leaders, advised religious leaders not to harbour sick people who presented with symptoms of Lassa fever. He urged them instead to refer them to the nearest hospital for prompt attention.
