Barcelona striker Luis Suarez has been banned for two
matches for his role in the fracas between Barcelona and Espanyol players after
their Spanish Cup tie.
He is alleged to have threatened players in the tunnel after
Wednesday’s game which ended 1-1. The ban will apply to only Copa Del Rey
matches and means he will win the second leg tie as well.
However, Barcelona is expected to appeal against the ban and
will argue that he did not use the offensive words that were attributed to him
in the referee’s official notes following the game.
Catalan newspaper Sport had quoted that the match referee
Juan Martinez Munuera’s report had said Suarez waited in the tunnel and then
shouted: “I am waiting for you, come here! You are a waste of space.”
