Zidane replaces sacked Benitez as Real coach

Real Madrid have sacked coach Rafa Benitez and replaced him with Real legend Zinedine Zidane. Zidane has been promoted from the B team after the Spaniard got the boot seven months into his tenure.

Real Madrid’s 2-2 draw with Valencia yesterday seems to have been the final straw after calls for his sack had grown louder and louder since the embarrassing 4-0 home loss to Barcelona in November.

Madrid had gone on to win seven of the nine matches since the home loss to Barcelona but the side’s style of play have often been criticized for not being exciting. Real Madrid are currently third in the league and are into the second round of the Champions League.

France great Zinedine Zidane, who was Carlo Ancelotti’s assistant in 2014 when the “La Decima” was won, will take charge of the next game against Granada on Sunday.
