PDP will not assist Metuh in getting sureties - Jalo

The leadership of the opposition party, Peoples Democratic Party, has said the party won't assist its embattled National Publicity Secretary, Chief Olisa Metuh, in getting sureties since the party did not benefit from from the money he received from the former National Security Adviser, Dasuki Sambo.

Deputy National Publicity Secretary of the PDP, Alhaji Abdullahi Jalo, told newsmen correspondent on Friday in Abuja that Metuh would have to look for sureties himself as the offense had nothing to do with the party. He therefore stated that it would be wrong for anyone to expect the party to assist Metuh.

Metuh is standing trial for collecting N400m from Dasuki, an offence the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission described as money laundering. He has however admitted to receiving the matter but has refused to say what the money was meant for.

He is also facing separate charges by the EFCC for allegedly destroying the copy of the statement he made to the commission while under interrogation.

The PDP spokesperson has pleaded not guilty to both offences, and he is currently being held in Kuje Prisons, Abuja, pending the time he would meet the bail conditions.

Jalo during the interview said, “Metuh didn’t represent the party in the alleged crimes he’s being prosecuted. The party didn’t benefit from the alleged crime.

“So, he is going to look for sureties himself. We won’t be involved. He would carry his own cross alone, without the party being involved.”
