Gabon and Borussia Dortmund striker Pierre Aubameyang has
won the 2015 CAF African Player of the Year award after beating Yaya Toure in a
close contest.
The award which is voted for by coaches and technical
directors of CAF member nations saw the Gabonese earn 143 points while
Manchester City midfielder Toure polled 16 points. The award means Aubameyang
is the first winner from Gabon. He has been in lethal form this season and has
scored 18 goals in 17 league matches.
Gabon will host the next African Nations Cup and there will
be huge expectation that he can carry his fine club form to the international
stage in about 12 months from now.
Herve Renard was named coach of the year after leading Ivory
Coast to victory at the African Cup of Nations. Mbwana Aly Samatta of TP
Mazembe was crowned African based player of the year.
