Real Madrid and Atletico Madrid banned from signing players

FIFA has banned Real Madrid and Atletico Madrid from signing players in the next two transfer windows. The bans will come into effect for summer of 2016 and 2017 January transfer windows.

The ban is related to “breaching relating to the international transfer and registration of players under the age of 18.” Real Madrid and Atletico Madrid also received fines of £249,000 and £622,000 respectively.

This ban will be a huge blow for Real Madrid who have been linked with Paul Pogba, Eden Hazard and David De Gea. Atletico Madrid, however, are unlikely to entertain bids for key players like Antoine Griezmann since suitable replacements cannot be signed.

Both clubs are expected to appeal the bans but they stand little chance after Barcelona failed with similar appeals at FIFA and the Court of Arbitration for Sports.
