A blast near a Polio vaccination centre in Pakistan has left
14 people dead and many more injured, officials said.
Those killed in Wednesday’s attack included 13 policemen and
a paramilitary trooper. The blast which occurred in the city of Quetta is under
investigation and no one has claimed responsibility.
Anti-polio campaigns have become targets for militants in
Pakistan since U.S intelligence officials admitted using a vaccination program
in their hunt for Osama Bin Laden in 2011. Under cover of the program, the CIA
sought to collect DNA samples from relatives of the al Qaeda leader to verify
his presence in a compound in Abottabad, Pakistan.
The fears of attacks on vaccination centres have led
Pakistani parents to refuse mandatory vaccination.
