Lassa fever cases confirmed in Nasarawa state





The Nasarawa state government have confirmed that two cases of Lassa fever were recorded in the state.

This development was confirmed by the state commissioner for health Dr. Daniel Iya in a press briefing yesterday. The cases were recorded at the Dalhatu Araf Specialist Hospital (DASH), Lafia, Nasarawa state. The patients include an 18-year old student and a 34-year old man who were brought in on December 21 and December 24, 2015 respectively.

He further added that the patients were receiving treatment in the health facility while all close contacts of both patients have been identified and subsequently placed on surveillance.

The commissioner then added that state government had started public health campaigns aimed at informing the public on the dangers of the disease and the government had began efforts to sensitize health workers at the primary and secondary health care levels in order to improve their index of suspicion.
