Lassa fever kills one in Edo State

One person has died from Lassa fever infection in Edo state.

It is understood that another victim is currently at admission at Irrua Specialist Teaching Hospital in Edo state where doctors are making frantic efforts to save the victim.

The State Commissioner for Health, Dr. Heregie Alhanuwa, confirmed the death and said three other infected persons have so far been treated and discharged. She said the dead victim did not present early for treatment.

The commissioner added that the state government had begun sensitization programmes on Lassa fever to rural communities and stated that health workers have been asked to look out for symptoms of Lassa fever and refer suspected cases.
